Early-payment rebate and digital modes drive strong start to new financial year.
Belagavi Civic Body Collects ₹18.12 Cr Property Tax in Just 20 Days.
The Belagavi City Corporation has reported a strong beginning to property tax collections for the current financial year, garnering ₹18.12 crore between April 1 and April 20. Officials attributed the impressive performance to the 5% early-payment rebate offered to taxpayers who clear their dues by April. The robust collection in the first 20 days has significantly strengthened the civic body’s revenue base at the start of the year. With collections traditionally peaking in the final week of April, officials expect the figures to rise further before the rebate window closes on April 30. Civic authorities also noted a sharp increase in digital payments, with more residents using online options such as UPI, net banking, and the corporation’s payment portal. Despite revenue staff being engaged in voter list mapping and census-related work, recovery efforts have remained steady. Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing on extending the rebate period. Last year, the state government extended the concession into May and June, a move citizens are hopeful will be repeated to encourage higher compliance.
