“Stalled Homes, Stuck Dreams – MahaRERA Must Act Now.”
Pune’s Real Estate in Limbo: 1,244 Projects Under Abeyance, Thousands of Buyers Suffer
Thousands of homebuyers in Pune are facing distress as 1,244 real estate projects have been marked "under abeyance" by MahaRERA for failing to submit completion certificates or apply for deadline extensions. Affected buyers, some waiting over a decade, are unable to execute sale deeds or recover their investments. One IT professional has waited 11 years for possession of a flat that’s barely 20% complete. Across Maharashtra, 4,904 projects are under abeyance. Consumer groups are demanding urgent action, including refunds, as project bank accounts are frozen and no fresh sales or bookings are allowed. While CREDAI claims that some delays are due to system update issues, MahaRERA asserts that developers were given ample reminders. As per RERA rules, developers must upload commencement and completion/occupancy certificates to ensure transparency and buyer protection. Yet, only 17,413 of 30,986 projects statewide are officially marked complete.
