The Maharashtra government warns of strict action against those denying housing rights to the poor.
SIT Ordered to Probe MHADA Quota Irregularities in Nashik.
The Maharashtra government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe alleged irregularities in the implementation of the MHADA housing quota in Nashik. State minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the probe aims to ensure that economically weaker sections (EWS) and low-income groups (LIG) are not deprived of their rightful homes. The SIT has been formed at the direction of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and will be chaired by the Nashik divisional commissioner. It will examine projects exceeding 4,000 square metres where developers allegedly failed to reserve 20% of land or housing units for the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA), as mandated under the 2013 notification. The probe will also assess recovery of reserved land, recommend disciplinary and criminal action against erring officials and developers, and suggest safeguards to prevent future violations. The SIT is expected to submit its report within one month.
