Top court grants temporary relief to housing societies, halting redevelopment work orders while ownership dispute is under review.

Supreme Court Stays Work Order for Bandra-Worli Cluster Redevelopment Until August 13.

The Supreme Court has temporarily restrained the Maharashtra government and MHADA from issuing any work order for the proposed cluster redevelopment of 132 acres in Mumbai's Bandra Reclamation and Worli areas until August 13. The redevelopment project, awarded to Adani Properties, aims to increase affordable housing through large-scale redevelopment. Several cooperative housing societies, including HIG Adarsh Nagar, Parijat, B-Adarsh Nagar, and Kamalpushpa, have challenged the government's decision, arguing that the land was legally conveyed to them and their ownership rights cannot be revoked through a government resolution. Although the Bombay High Court dismissed their petitions earlier this month, the societies appealed to the Supreme Court. Upon hearing the matter, the apex court directed the state and MHADA to submit their responses within a week and ordered that no work orders be issued until the next hearing, thereby providing temporary relief to the affected residents.
