Varanasi OTS Scheme Brings ₹39.36 Lakh in Property Tax in Three Days.
276 property owners clear dues while availing ₹7.18 lakh in waivers.
The Varanasi Municipal Corporation’s One-Time Settlement (OTS) scheme has generated a strong response, with 276 property owners depositing ₹39.36 lakh in property tax within just three days. The initiative offers major relief to defaulters by waiving the entire interest and surcharge when the outstanding principal amount is paid in a lump sum. Taxpayers participating in the scheme have already benefited from ₹7.18 lakh in waived interest and surcharge. The OTS scheme, launched on August 15, covers property tax, water tax and sewer tax dues and will remain open until December 15. To support small and medium taxpayers, the corporation has also introduced an instalment facility for dues of up to ₹1 lakh. Eligible taxpayers can pay one-third within the first 30 days, followed by the remaining amount in two equal monthly instalments. The initiative aims to encourage timely tax payments while reducing the financial burden on defaulters.
